The MOVEMENT IN TOUCH Workshop for Pilates instructors includes sets of complex choreographed moves designed to be both physically and cognitively stimulating and challenging. The workshop integrates special Pilates floor moves that focus on gentleness, acceptance, giving and receiving, to enrich your lessons and personal lives (see “Art of Movement”).
All workshops can be tailored to suit specific needs and interests of a group. The following topics can be tailored into a 1 or 2 day workshop of up to 12 hours:
Introductions + Workshop Overview: individual movements for relief at work, movements in pairs to reach new communication levels through touch and movement (based on the movements in my book series), Art of Movement lessons, lecture about communication through touch and movement, and film about movement and music in Africa.
Individual movements against a wall, on a chair and on a mat to release the shoulder blade region, as well as the neck and back, also using accessories such as a tennis ball and overball. We will learn how to use our bodies in a natural way to relieve pain and release stress, and discuss the suitability of these movements to individuals and situations.

Movements in pairs highlighting movements that can suit everyone and open discussion. Followed by movements for pregnant women and their partners, discussing the limitation of laying on your back and safe ways to stretch, including a short explanation about the relaxin hormone. We will discuss and encounter the kinesthetic sense (including variation of movements with your eyes shut and at various speeds – fast and slow).
Art of Movement: movements that flow and expand naturally from one movement to the next and require cognition, such that the movements become more complex as they develop, followed by a review and discussion.
Lecture on communication touching on the tools available to us in our daily life.
Session with balloons discussing the physiological affects of laughter.
Movements for seniors both individual and in pairs as well as highlighting the unique physiological needs of this age.
Movements with accessories such as an overball and tennis ball with instructions on how to work on specific problems such as inflexibility, alternative movements, strengthening abdominal muscles through creative ways. In addition, we will also learn important lessons on communication as a group while handling a tennis ball.
Short film and discussion exploring the influence of movement in our daily lives as well as cultural differences.
Discussion about how we can use the tools learned at the workshop (the connection between movement, touch and communication) to enhance our well being and interactions with others.
